Juhannuskallio scenery trail

The Juhannuskallio Scenery Trail is 52.5 km from Rovaniemi toward Posio. It belongs to the area of Kaihuanvaara–Kivalot, an easily accessible day-trip destination. The tree-covered hills of the area are prominent elements in the Kemi River landscape. They offer beautiful vistas over the riverside and surrounding areas. Kaihuanvaara has a remote wilderness feeling, and the old, peaceful hill-top forests offer various hiking destinations: the Kaihuanvaara Wilderness, Hiking, Nature and Circular (cycling) Trails.

The Juhannuskallio Scenery Trail passes through the best scenery of Kaihuanvaara. It begins at the parking area of Kaihuanvaaran rengastie, leads through dry pine forests and climbs to the top of Juhannuskallio, where there is a massive observation tower and a lean-to. The observation tower offers excellent views on the cultivated fields, villages and the Kemi River landscape. The lean-to and campfire site next to the tower make a great spot for enjoying a packed lunch amidst peaceful nature. In the winter, the trail can be accessed by ski and snowshoe. The round trip, including the connecting trail is 2.9 km. It is well suited for families with children.

There is a lean-to, campfire site, woodshed, outhouse and observation tower at the halfway point of the trail at Juhannuskallio.
