Auttiköngäs accessible trail

The Auttiköngäs Accessible Trail is around 70 km from Rovaniemi toward Posio. It is an ideal place for day trips: easily accessible and magnificent scenery. The area’s main attraction is the 16-metre-high Auttiköngäs, or Autti Falls. The forest in the area is so old that it can be called a primary or virgin forest. There has never been any organised logging in the area.

A 50-metre long, 1-metre wide accessible duckboard trail leads from the Auttiköngäs parking area to a log-driving cabin. There is also a shorter accessible duckboard trail from the parking area to the brink of the Auttiköngäs ravine, where there is an observation deck. Both trails are classified as difficult wheelchair trails (trail longitudinal gradient over 8%), so an assistant might be necessary.

The log-driving cabin, which is a day-trip cabin, and the lean-to next to the parking area are resting places suitable for the physically disabled. The outhouse at the parking area is also suitable for the disabled. Making an open fire is only permitted at the constructed campfire sites using the provided firewood.
