Ensio Seppänen - Katkenneet kahleet (1981)

There are three sculptures by artist Ensio Seppänen (b. 1924 in Kemi) in Rovaniemi. One of these is the monument to the Jäger Movement, completed in 1981 in Jääkäripuisto on Lapinkävijäntie. The sculpture is made of stone. The light central stone is from Imatra, and the other stones have been brought from a mound in the village of Riesto in Sodankylä.

The title of the sculpture is a reference to breaking chains, and it depicts Finland's liberation from Russia. The light, upright stone in the centre symbolises an independent Finland, a liberator that has broken the chains of its former master, Russia.
